WELCOME TO PPSC’S
REFUGEE SUPPORT PROJECT
In light of the horrific war in Ukraine and other Humanitarian crises around the world, PPSC (Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Study Center) mobilized to form the PPSC Refugee Support Project. PPSC RSP is a group of volunteers throughout the mental health and lay community who provide crisis and support services to refugees, their families, service workers.
Volunteers at PPSC’s Refugee Support Project fall into several categories, including but not limited to:
Licensed Clinicians/Therapists:
If you are a refugee who has been impacted by the ongoing Refugee Crisis, you are in the right place! At PPSC (Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Study Center) we have formed the Refugee Support Project, a network of volunteers to meet the needs of Refugees both abroad and here in the United States of America. We provide crisis and support services to refugees, their loved ones, as well as Humanitarian workers & Volunteers themselves. Services that are currently offered include (but are not limited to):
Asylum Advocates:
Trained Asylum Advocates are here to offer support to asylum seekers in need. Our advocates have completed asylum-specific training through the Weill Cornell Center for Human Rights and have received a WCCHR affidavit of eligibility, allowing them to provide informed, quality care. Asylum Advocates can support referrals by linking them to an immigration attorney either through Physician For Human Rights or PPSC; together we will assist you with the asylum application process.
Translators:
Translators who speak English, Ukrainian, Russian, Spanish (and even other languages!) are supporting our referrals with translation services. They will work with you to provide support in whatever capacity you may need. We are ready to speak on your behalf to get your needs met as soon as possible.
Resettlement Volunteers:
PROFESSIONAL Translators who speak English, Ukrainian, Russian, Spanish (and even other languages!) are HERE TO PROVIDE OUR REFERRALS WITH TRANSLATION OF LEGAL DOCUMENTATION (EX: SOCIAL SECURITY PAPERWORK, MEDICAID PAPERWORK, WORK PERMIT PAPERWORK, ETC).
VOLUNTEERS WILL ALSO WORK TO SUPPORT REFERRALS WITH CARE COORDINATION & SECURING BASIC NEEDS (EX: HOUSING, EMPLOYMENT, ETC).
Administrative Volunteers:
Administration Coordinators are monitoring the various services that are being provided by PPSC. If you are seeking initial services, additional services or have any general inquiries please use the Contact Us form below to be connected with one of our Administrative Volunteers. They can assist you by ensuring that you are connected to providers as well as non-profit organizations that can meet your needs.
Volunteer clinicians may or may not be members of the PPSC community, (i.e candidates in training, faculty or supervisors), but are independent practitioners who have agreed to affiliate and participate in the PPSC RSP effort. PPSC requires participating volunteers to have the appropriate license, insurance and supervision as needed and abide by any required RSP protocols.
It is our intention to expand this project to other refugee groups once we have consolidated our efforts.
